LORENZO FEI

Lorenzo Fei developed his passion for built heritage documentation and preservation during his architectural studies, with a particular focus on anthropogeography, urban planning history, and traditional Roman building techniques.

He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Roma Tre, specializing in wooden carpentry of Roman monumental buildings, particularly early Christian basilicas and Baroque structures.

His research journey includes documenting historical earthquake damage in Rome through archival research and architectural surveys, and developing an HBiM platform for mapping structural and decorative components in Roman heritage buildings.

His expertise extends to natural binders, lime plasters, stuccos, and mortars, especially in Mediterranean and Catalan vaulted masonry structures. Throughout his career, he has actively participated in restoration projects of listed buildings and competitions in earthquake-damaged historical contexts.

He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame, teaching European Building Cultures in the Master of Science in Historic Preservation program.
