Amelia, Umbria
Amelia, Italy, has a rich history dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. According to tradition, the city was founded by Amiro in 1134 BC. Archaeological findings confirm human presence in the area during the Bronze and Iron Ages. The city became a structured Umbrian town between the 6th and 5th centuries BC and established official relations with Rome in the 3rd century BC.
During the Roman era, Amelia flourished, becoming a municipium and undergoing significant urban development. The city was equipped with walls, a forum, theater, and paved streets. The construction of baths, a campus, and an amphitheater followed, showcasing the city's prosperity.
In the later centuries, Amelia's importance waxed and waned, with the city being assigned to the province of Tuscia et Umbria in the 3rd century AD. The city remained a strategic stronghold, passing under Byzantine control in 538 and later becoming part of the Holy See's heritage.
